THE LOOK OF LOVE
Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?
As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is–until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love–and protect–her, but will she let him?
FROM THIS MOMENT ON
For thirty-six years, Marcus Sullivan has been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings after their father died when they were children. But when the perfectly ordered future he’s planned for himself turns out to be nothing but a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.
Nicola Harding is known throughout the world by only one name – Nico – for her catchy, sensual pop songs. Only, what no one knows about the twenty-five year old singer is that her sex-kitten image is totally false. After a terrible betrayal by a man who loved fame far more than he ever loved her, she vows not to let anyone else get close enough to find out who she really is…or hurt her again. Especially not the gorgeous stranger she meets at a nightclub, even though the hunger – and the sinful promises – in his dark eyes make her want to spill all her secrets.
CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE
Gabe Sullivan risks his life every day as a firefighter in San Francisco. But after learning a brutal lesson about professional boundaries, he knows better than to risk his heart to his fire victims ever again. Especially the brave mother and daughter he saved from a deadly apartment fire…and can’t stop thinking about.
Megan Harris knows she owes the heroic firefighter everything for running into a burning building to save her and her seven-year-old daughter. Everything except her heart. Because after losing her navy pilot husband five years ago, she has vowed to never suffer through loving – and losing – a man with a dangerous job again.

Review
Real and Vivid. I liked the way that Ian Lewis wove his tale.

Characterization was huge in this novel. The characters were all very well developed and had their own motivations and faults. It made them seem more real to me as the reader.

I also really liked the flow of this novel. It felt very smooth.

This novel will keep you in suspense and trying to figure out each and every next event as you read. You wont be able to put it down.

Chapter 5
It was close to noon, and the sun beat down on the desert. Despite the warnings, nothing could have prepared them for the merciless heat that awaited them. Some of them weren’t even aware of the thorns that stuck to their shoes and pants. Those wearing shorts got stung and had to stop occasionally to pull out the thorns.
One snagged Porro’s wounded leg, making the gash deeper and painful. Still, the group was upbeat. They were on their way to a better life, and all they had to do was plug along, one step at a time, each passing day bringing them closer to their dream.
Mecha and Gordo were sitting around a creosote bush, with a few acacia trees and tarbush providing a makeshift shelter. They began to weave dreams about El Norte. Lucas, their son, was well behaved. At some point, he wandered off into the brush to explore the surroundings. He imagined being the Lone Ranger on the lookout for Indians as he had seen so many times on TV. He ventured out a little bit more. Mecha took out some apples from her backpack.
“Why don’t you invite those two boys over, mi amor?” she asked Gordo. “I’ll check on Lucas in the meantime.”
“Sure.”
She disappeared behind some bushes while Gordo walked over to Porro and Marco who were sitting a few feet to the right. “You wanna join us?” he asked.
Marco smiled. Porro hesitated a little before getting up.
“I am Marco,” he said.
“And I am Porro.”
“Nice to meet you both,” he said. “You can sit with us if you’d like. We can eat together.”
Soon they were all catching up on their stories.
“I have a sister in Phoenix, Arizona,” Gordo started. “She went ten years ago, and she’s doing very well. She works for a wealthy family as a housekeeper, and she told us that her employers could use more help. The cook got married, and they asked my sister if she knew anybody that could replace her. She immediately wrote to us. We’ll have a place to stay as soon as we get there. I will take care of the yard and household maintenance, and our son will go to school with the gringos. He will be the first one in our family to get an education. He wants to be a doctor.” Gordo smiled at the thought.
Porro was about to say something when he spotted Coyote in between some branches in the brush. He got up and snuck toward the bushes. Gordo didn’t seem to notice. As he walked over to the spot, Porro heard the stir of leaves and then a muffled whimper. He tiptoed in the direction of the sounds. A few feet from where he was standing, Coyote was forcing himself on Mecha. She struggled, her body pinned to the ground while he thrust with force. Porro thought about his options. If he interfered and tried to save her, he would have to fight Coyote, and he was already a target thanks to Marco. Porro couldn’t afford to let anything or anybody get in the way of his reaching America. He needed to stay alive, and going forward toward Hope was his only option.
Mecha groaned, and Porro imagined if that were Azucena, he would want somebody to come to her rescue. He walked slowly toward Coyote, but Coyote sensed his presence behind him. Just as Porro reached to grab him, Coyote jumped away from her. He pushed Porro, causing

Set in the exciting world of Prada about a former male model turned brand manager and the beautiful small town public relations specialist he doesn’t think he needs.
Go behind the scenes in the fashion industry as Gwendolyn Mallory sets out to prove that she has what it takes to promote a prestigious brand like Prada. Andrew Morgan is already struggling to accept that his PR responsibilities have been taken away from him, but the intense attraction he has for Gwen, is just plain getting in the way of rational thinking—sleeping with a co-worker has always been on his to-don’t list. Follow the sparkling fuse slowly burning with sexual tension as Gwen brings to life a sexy devil…who just happens to wear Prada. Andrew has to have the woman he never knew he needed.
Excerpt
“Gwen?”
Her eyes lit up. “Andrew!”
She twirled in an emerald green full length gown that cinched at her waist. Her body filled out the bodice perfectly and the upper swells of her full breasts peeked through the asymmetrical cutouts in the neckline. “Isn’t this the most gorgeous thing you’ve ever seen?”
Yes. But he wasn’t thinking of the dress. “Salvatore. You’ve outdone yourself. I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but why isn’t something as beautiful as this in the show?”
The designer rubbed a chin that hadn’t seen a razor in a couple of days. “Do you know one of our models who could fill out a dress like this as well as our Gwen?”
Our Gwen?
“Salvatore, thank you.” The gown gave way at the slit, showing a firm thigh as Gwen stepped toward the designer to hug him.
Andrew’s blood boiled when Salvatore’s scandalous hands sat on her waist. She was not his. The tentative hesitation in her hug however, cooled his fever. And the smile on her lips as she bounded in his direction reminded him of the woman she really was. Not all made up in a gown. As if Salvatore was trying to make her one of his models. A doll he could play dress-up with.
“Did you need something, Andrew?”
“Actually…,” he He could use a set of defibrillator paddles., “I have a gift for you too.” He swayed further into the room, his confidence returning with every step. From a linen sack, he removed a shoebox. “She should be in Prada from head to toe, should she not, Salvatore?”
The designer grumbled, appearing to regret he hadn’t thought of the obvious accessory.
“Andrew, what have you done?” Gwen asked resting her hands on round curvy hips.
“Come here, Gwen,” he commanded and pointed to her suite’s desk chair. “Sit.”
At the chair, she swept aside the long skirt made of raw silk and sat with her knees pinned together. Andrew’s jaw trembled as he sank to one knee. The shoe he removed from the box was not an original new design he could have swiped from the sample floor before they left. It was one of his favorites, a classic that had been around for years. The deep black suede gladiator sandal with satin nickel studs suited Gwen’s edgy personality. It was also the perfect complement to an elegant full length gown. The moderate heel would also cushion her ankles as she moved through the show tomorrow.
Andrew unfolded the soft tissue paper and held the shoe in front of Gwen.
“The Filettra sandal?” She looked at him, stunned.
“You know the name of this shoe?” Salvatore asked.
But before she could answer, Andrew turned to the designer. “She obviously did her homework on our products.”
“You boys really know how to make a girl feel like Cinderella!” She slipped her foot into the insole while it was still in Andrew’s hand. He leaned forward to buckle the small strap around her ankle, his chest leaning against her knee. After he repeated the same for the other foot, she stood. He’d worked for Prada long enough to know when a woman was comfortable in one of their shoes. Her toes sat perfectly against the vamp without looking crushed.
He had a feeling Gwen had stopped breathing. Andrew lifted his chin slowly. On her face was a look of controlled satisfaction.
Like maybe she would wait to show how much this really meant to her until they were alone.

 Review
Whimsical and Fun. There is plenty of action during the course of the novel to keep the reader engaged as well as funny moments that will make them laugh out loud.
The title kind of shows you what you will get. Its a fun play on words and really delivers on the fun adventure middle school novel you are getting.

When seniors normally settle into Cedar Branch Retirement Community they begin a simpler and slower pace of living. Not this group! With Jack Goslin, Karl and Betty Rutherfurd, and the Stevens Sisters nothing is simple or slower after moving into the number one retirement community in the south. With the neighboring resort battling over the beach property our eccentric group of seniors avenge war on the uptight and controlling manager of the resort. And after CBC gives the green light for residents to have private golf carts, well things just get even crazier for Derrick St. Clair.
From the new exotic fitness instructor, to Violet’s secret winery, Jack’s pimped out golf cart, and a host of other new issues for the director, CBC continues to gain popularity as the most interesting retirement community in the south. If you are looking for a place to retire, settle down, or witness bizarre fiascos stop by Cedar Branch, who knows – you just might make it home!

Excerpt

Cedar Branch had a long-standing rule about BBQ grills on the balconies of The Tower apartments, a rule created by an incident five years prior to Jack Goslin moving in.  On the sixth floor facing the tranquil emerald gulf, a retired couple was enjoying the evening cooking chicken on a newly acquired stainless steel grill.  The gentleman opened the lid to inspect the meat, and their curious two-year-old Persian cat leaped on the grill, catching the hair of its tail on fire.  At the same time the cat suddenly combusted, the lady opened the door to the balcony, allowing the fire ball to run inside, catching the curtains, couch, a vase of silk flowers, and unpaid tax documents on the table on fire.  After an hour of extinguishing the flames, the couple was left with ruined furniture, burnt chicken, unreadable taxes, and a bald cat—thus generating almost instantly the “No BBQ grill” rule.

In the midst of a welcome cool front, though, the residents of CBC were out enjoying an evening without the brutal heat that the South was so notorious for developing.  On the fifth floor of the Tower apartments, Karl lifted the top off the grill to inspect the filets wrapped with bacon slowly cooking on Jack’s new grill.  Picking up a pair of cooking tongs, he gently lifted one of the pieces of meat and examined the bottom.  “You keep opening the top, they’ll never get done,” Jack said, walking back out on his balcony with a refilled glass of bourbon.

“Your fire is too hot!  They’re gonna burn,” Karl groaned.

“If you’re looking, then you’re not cooking!  The fire is fine.”

Karl mumbled a few words, then made it over to the rocking chair he had claimed weeks earlier when Jack moved in.  The sound of the construction work from below started to die down as the time neared 6:00 p.m. and quitting time.  Jack leaned over the railing and watched a few young men roll up a couple of orange extension cords while others locked down their tool boxes and work areas.  Pulling his attention back to the grill, he saw Karl lifting the lid again.

“You are as nosey as the Stevens Sisters.”

Karl closed the lid with an indignant “I am not!  Your fire is too hot.” Pouting, he made his way back to his rocking chair.

Jack sat down next to him. “You are like the wife I never had,” he chuckled while taking a sip from his 1792 Ridgemont Reserve bourbon.

“Huh.  You drink too damn much to be married to me,” Karl said under his breath.

“I’d drink more if we were married,” Jack answered even more quietly.

“What?” Karl asked.

“Nothing.”

A commotion broke out under their balcony, causing both men to exit their chairs and lean over the railing in time to see half a dozen construction workers standing below the third balcony with arms outstretched to catch the cold beer cans being tossed down.  The Stevens Sisters had moved from one side of the apartments to the other, giving them a front row to the Gulf of Mexico. “Hey, Rutherfurd!” Violet looked up, yelling at the two older men, “you on fire up there, or did you finally decide to burn that painting you made last week?”

Karl rolled his eyes. “Good Lord!  It’s like Mardi Gras meets redneck central around here!”

The six construction workers cheered and waved to the Stevens Sisters as they made their way to their trucks with half-a-dozen cold beers.  Beyond the construction and across the highway, the waves crashed on the white sandy beaches of southern Alabama, occupied at this end of the day by only a few people taking their strolls and awaiting the sunset.

“Hey Goslin!  You want a beer?” Violet shouted up toward the two men.

“Just poured a glass,” Jack held out his bourbon.  “Do you want some Mardi Gras beads?” he shouted back, looking at Karl and adding to his earlier comment.

“Hell, yea!” Violet shouted back and grabbed the bottom of her shirt to pull up, knowing what it meant to ask for beads on a parade route during Mardi Gras.

June grabbed her hand, “Violet, nobody wants to see your girls.  Jack probably doesn’t have any beads.”

“Yea, you’re probably right.  Plus who am I kidding—there’s no way in hell they would be able to see the girls from above me, they’ve been hanging around my waist for 15 years!” Violet walked back into their apartment.

The men settled back in the rocking chairs awaiting the filets and an evening that promised a colorful sunset.  “Well, I’ll hand it to those workers; they finished the bridge in record time,” Jack said, pointing at the new bridge that crossed the highway from CBC to the beach.

“It’s only one lane.  And now that we can have golf carts, it’s just going to cause a traffic jam to get to and from the beach!” Karl griped.

“Are you and Betty going to buy that four-seater?” Jack asked.

“Now why in the hell would I buy a four-seater golf cart?  I’m not running a taxi service.”

“In case I need a ride.”

“Drive your own damn golf cart.”

Jack laughed at his comment as a strong knock came from his door. “Betty?” Jack asked.

“No, she’s down at the art center with Kat.”

Jack walked through his apartment and set his glass down on the counter top before opening the door. “Jack, you know the rules,” Derrick said, leaning on the door frame as Jack opened the door.

“I’ve got you a steak on the grill, had them flown in from New York,” Jack replied, stepping out of the way to allow Derrick to walk in.

“Cooking me a steak is not going to undo the rules.”

“Maybe for tonight; I’ll get rid of it tomorrow.”

Derrick followed Jack to the balcony, adding a “Hello, Mr. Rutherfurd.”

“Have you bought that girl a ring yet?” Jack asked.

“Not yet.”

Something caught Jack’s eyes beyond the conversation, and as he focused on what was flying from the Tower Apartments, a loud explosion echoed from below, and the object flying out from the building disappeared in an orange dust cloud.  Karl spit out his drink. “Good Lord, what in the hell was that?”

A voice shouted from below them, “Pull!”

The three men witnessed another clay target leave the Stevens sisters’ balcony, followed by another explosion from the shotgun barrel following its clay target.  People on the beach ran for cover, a man riding his bicycle ran into a sign, and a flock of sea gulls scattered for their lives. “Pull!” Violet shouted again, followed by another shotgun blast.

“Keep my steak warm—I’ll be right back,” Derrick said, dashing out of Jack’s apartment on his way to the third floor.

“I swear, those damn hillbillies will be the death of us!” Karl grumbled, holding his chest.

Wow, this one really delivers in many areas. It is a thrilling novel with teeth. Yes, it took a bit of catching up to understand what was going on,  but once in the heart of it, Jennifer Chase has the reader hooked.
As far as Characters, Plot, and Flow, everything was very well developed and smooth.

About the Author

My love for writing began several years ago after an early retirement from a demanding job that I loved, but also hated because it consumed so much of my time. Now, I am able to focus my time on what I love. Writing romance has been a life long dream and to actually say that I am a published author is beyond what I would have ever expected.
Even though some may say I have a little naughtiness in my books, I look at it as an added bonus for my readers. After all what is a romance book without a little spice.
When I am not writing, I enjoy spending time with friends either at home or out on the town. Mostly, I enjoy a relaxing night at home where I can enjoy a glass of wine in the company of a good book.

But each loop challenges that theory, igniting a fiery romance between him and his best friend’s sister and exposing the dark truth behind Déjà vu.
Review
There are a lot of moving parts to this novel and a good amount of drama and action without being action packed. I liked the way the characters were relatable even though it was set in a different time period.
The Historical aspect is very well done and the imagery and setting is amazing. The Author really brings the world to life through words.
Get ready to be immersed in the world and captivated by the characters he has created.
